Server transfers coming

Server transfers coming

Some news on 'server transfers' (i.e. moving your chars between servers) has been announced by GOA...

Over the next few weeks we will be enabling server transfers to help balance the population. Players on some servers will have the option to move to a different server. To begin with we will be offering transfers from either low population or very busy servers to medium population ones. We are currently testing the systems that will make this possible and expect to be able to give you a firm date for the start of this process within the next few days.

Patch 1.0.5. coming

Patch 1.0.5. coming

There are going to be a LOT of changes to the character classes in the upcoming 1.0.5. patch.

We have the advance notes in an article HERE so make sure you go and have a read. It looks like some classes benefit, some lose out a little (bah, they've nerfed my Ironbreaker!).

So for good or bad, changes are coming! What do you think? Why not discuss in the forums...

Things that go bump in the night

Things that go bump in the night

There's some great news about a 'live event' coming very soon to the world of WAR...

Witching Night approaches and all across the Old World, evil creatures awake to wreak mayhem. The twin moons bathe the land in pale light as this is the only time all year when they are both waxing full. The brave – or the foolhardy – hunt the twisted abominations that are called by the celestial confluence but will you be hunter or hunted?

From October 30th until the 3rd November, you will be able to take part in the deadly festivities of Witching Night. Fight in special Public Quests, unlock new rewards and look out for power hidden in dark places.

New Conflicts
The constant warfare and the approach of the Witching Night have awakened ancient horrors from their slumber, daring brave warriors from the armies of Order and Destruction to conquer them in the name of glory!

Four new Public Quests will be added to the game, spread across all tiers and pairings. Unlike the game's current public quests, these will be set inside of the Open RvR areas, allowing players to compete directly against each other to earn influence that will earn them rewards offered by one of the new Herald NPCs we'll be adding to the capital cities.

These new public quests are different in two important ways. First, they're located in RvR lakes, rather than in PvE areas. In particular, the locations for the new public quests are as follows:

The Tier 1 Public Quest will be located in Chrace

The Tier 2 Public Quest will be located in Troll Country

The Tier 3 Public Quest will be located in Black Fire Pass

The Tier 4 Public Quest will be located in Caledor

Also, because of the special nature of these Public Quests and the rewards that players can earn by participating in them, the quests will reset less frequently that you might be used to. Expect a few hours to pass after a Witching Night Public Quest is completed before you'll be able to try it again.

More details HERE.

One guild, two guilds...

One guild, two guilds...

It looks like the Stout N Sturdy guild has one hell of a split personality! Not content to kick the stunties up and down stairs on the Karak Hirn server as their evil alter-ego's Smelly N Scary ( http://www.smellynscary.co.uk/ ), Stout n Sturdy have dusted off their axes and are fighting the good fight for Order and the Empire on the RP server Burlok ( http://snsguildforum.co.uk/war/ ).

In both forms, they come together on joint forums, and are always looking for mature new members. The emphasis is on FUN, and being good to each other - they definately aren't a hardcore 'l33t' guild, although saying that someone has just reached level 40 on the Smelly N Scary side! (contrats).

They have brand new mini-sites up for each flavour of the WAR guild, and a busy main forum where everyone comes together. So if you play on either of those servers, or are just looking to join a guild/kinship in either Order or Destruction, why not go and take a look at their sites to see if they are for you.

Krispy

p.s. It's where I hang my axe, so I do have to claim a vested interested ;)

XP changes

XP changes

Some changes are being made around experience gained during open RvR. I think this must be to try and encourage people out of the scenario's, and into those big RvR areas on the main maps! Go take those battlefield objectives!

The first and the second experience enhancement phases rendered Tier 3 and Tier 4 questing and Keep warfare more rewarding, see these notes for details. In this third phase, Mythic has now further enhanced Open RvR combat:

Experience Enhancements: Phase III
With the addition of the new region-wide and RvR-wide chat channels we have seen a marked increase in Open RvR participation. In order to encourage this trend even further, we have made an additional adjustment to the experience awarded for killing enemy players in an Open RvR 'lake'. Previously we increased this amount by 50%. As of today, that bonus has been raised to 100%. With this change players killed in Open RvR will now be worth double the experience than those killed in scenarios!

We are constantly monitoring your feedback and passing it on to the Dev team at Mythic to ensure that your opinion is taken into consideration when creating the best possible RvR experience. Stay tuned to war-europe and see the upcoming newsletter for more updates!

Patch 1.0.3 - Arrives 10/15/08!

Patch 1.0.3 - Arrives 10/15/08!

We're pleased to announce the addition of a new regional chat system. This item has been one of our most requested features, and you can find the details below.

We have made additional improvements to the functionality of the /ignore command. This command should now work more consistently.

A “new mail” icon has been added to the edge of the minimap to alert players when new mail messages have arrived.

We have made some additional improvements to the handling of NPC speech and action text in an effort to reduce the amount of chat players see from NPCs.

In order to provide a more challenging and rewarding experience, we have adjusted the overall speed at which players can gain control of zones and move the campaign.

Pet behavior has been improved and should act more naturally when changing between passive and defensive modes while the pet is fighting multiple enemies.

The war against the gold sellers continues! We have introduced a new "report gold seller" command that works as follows: when you type /rg, the game will automatically fill out a gold seller appeal using the name of the last player who sent you a tell. If you get an unwanted /tell from a pesky gold seller, type /rg to start an appeal and get them busted!

We have added a new option to the user settings that will allow players to enable or disable shader caching. This is a graphical performance option, and for a full explanation, players can hover their mouse over this option in the user settings window. This should help improve performance on many systems.

Patch 1.0.1 coming tomorrow

Patch 1.0.1 coming tomorrow

GOA have announced that Friday morning will see the first big live patch (see notes here)

Just over two weeks after the official launch of WAR, we have the first major update for you: It includes tweaks and fixes that many of you have been asking for and we’re glad to say that it turned out great.

In order to apply this patch to the servers we will take them offline on Friday morning at 8:00 CEST. We expect the maintenance to proceed through most of the morning. While you're waiting, why not have a look at the complete 1.01 patch notes?v

On a related note: we will bring down our account authentication platform for a minor maintenance tomorrow morning, rendering account login unavailable between 10:00 and 10:30 CEST.

WAR account maintenance...

WAR account maintenance up soon

At the moment, no subscription is needed to play WAR. In preparation for the start of subscription based game access, we will be opening our billing pages on October 8th. Here you will find all the options you need to choose the length and payment method that suits you. Prepaid cards will be arriving in shops from the 8th as well in support of this.

Everyone who bought the game has 30 days of free access and in addition we have also given extra bonus days for various reasons. Below is a comprehensive list of bonus days allocated to different groups of players:

All Open Beta accounts: 7 bonus days.
Standard Edition Head Start grace period: 7 days.
Collector’s Edition Head Start grace period: 14 days.
All full WAR accounts: 30 days.

These bonus days are cumulative so if you played during Open Beta (7 bonus days) and the Standard Edition Head Start (7 grace period days), you would need to validate your live code today in order to continue playing tomorrow. There is no disadvantage in setting up your subscription well before these days are over as your paid subscription will only start ticking once your bonus days are over.

Following the end of the various free periods granted your account, some of you may receive an email stating that your subscription has ended. In order to continue playing, you’d then need to activate your live licence code on your account in order to activate the 30 free days. If already done successfully, you should not receive such an email. If you do, please contact our Billing Support.
If you haven’t secured a copy of WAR, you will find a comprehensive list of retailers and partners here. Should you have any general questions, please see our FAQ. It is updated regularly and should be the first place to look for information. If additional assistance is needed, our Customer Support teams are also ready to help when contacted via our Help Form .

Thanks to all of you, WAR has already been a massive success and we look forwards to you continuing your adventures with us.
